The catalyst for the creation of SHADE Industries originated in 1994, when founder Patrick Howe was working for a company that specialized in shade awnings. In the early 2000s, he decided to try something different and formed his own company, Shade Central, to focus on shade sails. Not long after, Conrad Masterson, our current President, started working with Howe. The two decided to partner in 2008, and formed SHADE Industries. Their combined focus shifted to finding a better way to provide shade where people wanted it, rather than simply placing a structure over a similar sized space and calling it shaded. In 2010, Masterson took full ownership of the company. Since the beginning, we have used research and experience to perfect the craft of providing quality shade structures that provide functional shade when and where it is needed.
SHADE Industries specializes in the design, fabrication, and installation of the finest shade sails, tensioned fabric shade structures, patio shade covers, and shade canopies nationwide. We use AutoCAD, Adobe applications, and SketchUp along with 3D and 360 laser scanning/measuring systems to assist with design, fabrication, and installation. After determining where shade is desired, we clarify the times of day and year that may have more importance. SHADE Industries’ focus has always been on custom shade sails, but we also offer other custom shade structures, hip structures, lace-on panels, and GORILLABrellas (permanent umbrellas) as determined appropriate for your specific situation.
Our Estimators and Designers meet with clients to discuss project requirements and design ideas. We then use 3D models to assist with design and convey our ideas to our clients. In almost every case, we fabricate our own steel and specify the sewing of our shade cloth. Our typical shade fabric is a 10 ounce High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) warrantied for 10 years against sun degradation, but we also offer 12 ounce fabrics that are warrantied for 15 years against sun degradation. We only use Tenara thread, which is the standard to which all other PTFE threads are compared. Tenara thread is warrantied for the lifetime of the fabric against sun degradation. Our seams are double lock-stitched and our edge pockets are triple lock-stitched. We are not aware of any instance in which one of our seams has ripped since switching to Tenara in 2005. We use stainless steel cable and stainless steel thimble D-rings to help prevent cable fatigue. On most all public projects, we install backup cables that are designed to support the sail structure in the unlikely event that there is a hardware failure. Our own trained and experienced employees install our products. By controlling all aspects of the process, SHADE Industries is able to provide a better product to our customers, improve scheduling times and keep pricing competitive.
Headquartered in Tucson, with our manufacturing and testing facility located in Phoenix, our products are manufactured in the USA. We strive to be an environmentally friendly company. We attempt to complete installations and designs that will be low impact to the surrounding environment and have implemented policies regarding recycling and limiting waste.
